Daum (also known as Daum Nancy) is a French company that has been making cameo art glass since the late 1800s. The detail and artwork of these items are incredible. The Daum company usually produced items such as vases, lamps figures, animals and bowls. The signature on pieces may be Daum, Daum Nancy and Daum France.
Be careful when purchasing Daum art glass. Many good fakes have been circulating the market lately. It can even be difficult for experts to authenticate some good reproduction. In order to be sure you are getting an authentic piece of Daum Nancy art glass you should only buy from reputable art glass dealers and auction houses.
Antique Daum Glass is hard to find. For that reason, the prices for Daum can be very high. Vases and lamps may sell for thousands. Sometimes even small Daum vases made in the early part of the 20th century had extra fine detail. These pieces may sell for just as much as the larger items. The overall value of Daum pieces depends on how detailed the work was and condition of the piece. As shown in the photo below, a beautiful Daum vase was converted into a lamp. That means that the piece was originally made to be a vase. However, someone felt it would look better as a lamp. They then drilled a hole in the one of a kind piece. Although it may look nice as a lamp, the antique value has now been cut in half.
